Day 6

Today we studied, experienced rather, modern art. We started our journey at the London Tower Bridge. The tower, or castle, that the bridge is leading to has quite the history. It was used as a prison and store house for the Crown Jewels. As we walked across the bridge we got a fabulous view of London’s array of new and old architecture. We got to see the City Hall, Gherkin, and Millennium Bridge all in one shot! Finally we arrived at the Design Museum. It was quite interesting…. I was hoping to see more modern furniture and less…. white space. But it was definitely interesting. There was an exhibit on futuristic cars, bikes, and motorcycles. The artist apparently was at the museum but I didn’t spot him.

I thought Dad would appreciate this bike!

And here is a new idea for grandpa's dumpster diving projects!

After the Design Museum we walked to the Tate Modern. Very cool!

A few of us bought tickets to the Dali exhibit. It was so interesting to see all of his work and how it all came about. He did all sorts of work; starting from paintings to films to furniture. We were able to watch the first film he wrote. The opening seen shows a man slicing a woman’s eye open with a knife- creepy! But it explained the reoccurring scenes in his paintings. For instance, ants, this symbolizes sexual desires. And the rotting donkey, this symbolizes the conservative society. It was really interesting. The last film was a documentary on Dali- it explained a lot! Including the fact that he traveled to Malaysia or someplace to buy these really rare White Mushrooms…. Now all his work makes sense! Dali was definitely a weird dude!

The rest of the museum was so great! I loved how there was always explanations and documentary films playing to explain the strange paintings and sculptures. The rest of the day was not nearly as cool. We got lost…. We could not find a tube station for the life of us. We walked for three hours straight until finally we found one. When we got home, which was around six, we crashed! Didn’t wake back up until six the next morning!
