Located in Derbyshire, Old Hardwick Hall was a family home built for Bess of Hardwick, one of the most powerful and remarkable women of England. This building is now in ruins, but standing next to it is the ‘New’ Hall that she had built in the later 1590’s. Though the Old Hall is now roofless, visitors can still ascend four floors to view surviving decorative plasterwork, as well as the kitchen and service rooms.
