Day 9

Cambridge, named after the Bridge over the Cam River.

Very Beautiful and old. It is an old college town with tons of traditions and dramatic histories. The University was started by King Henry VI and finished by Henry the VIII. One interesting fact about this town is that one of the colleges has a beautiful eagle sculpture on the top of it and Hitler loved the building. So during the Holocaust the town of Cambridge wasn’t destroyed because of that one building. We had a walking tour of the whole city and campus by a 70 year old woman who was so passionate about everything! She made the tour so interesting. After the tour we went on a punting ride down the Cam River. All the colleges had just gotten done taking their finals and were setting up for their Masquerade Balls along the river and boys were dressed up as pirates and had blow up pirate ships and were floating down the river. Lots of students had rented punting boats and were floating down the river, drinking wine, and just havin a good time. After we went to the center of town were they were having a farmers market. When we started to make the two mile trek back to the train station it started pouring rain. Breanne and I spotted a Mexican restaurant and had to stop- the group went ahead because the train was coming. We got our burritos and ran to the station. By the time we got there we were drenched! We barely made it. The group was just boarding the train when we ran in. The train ride was quite cold and uncomfortable but totally worth it! Those were the best burritos ever!
